What got me hooked was the rhythm: duck behind a corner, pop out, fire, reverse, repeat. The AI isn't stupid, it'll flank you, so you have to keep moving. Power-ups like extra life and shield spawn randomly, and grabbing one at the wrong time can actually get you killed because you stop watching your back. The cannon has a nice recoil kick that makes every shot feel chunky, especially when you catch two enemies lined up and a single shell rips through both.
