The first thirty seconds feel manageable. A few drones drift in, you click them apart, maybe you even get cocky. Then the second wave hits and the screen starts filling with red blips. Mech Core: Survivor is a top-down arena shooter where your only job is staying alive long enough to upgrade your mech before the next swarm rolls over you. Movement is WASD, aiming is mouse, and auto-fire is on by default so you can focus on dodging instead of spamming left click. I actually toggled auto-fire off for a while to feel more in control, but that was a mistake—when a cluster of fast movers rushes your flank, you want every gun online. What keeps me coming back is the upgrade loop. As you survive waves, you bank cores (or whatever the glowing currency is) and spend them between rounds on new weapons, faster thrusters, or passive repairs. There's a real 'one more run' pull when you realize you died one kill short of affording a missile pod. The arena itself stays simple—maybe a few cover blocks—but enemies vary enough that you can't just circle-strafe forever. Some drones snipe from range, some suicide rush, and the bigger mechs demand you break line of sight or kite them through gaps. I had a run where I spent twenty seconds dancing around a single elite while two turrets chewed through my armor. That's the kind of tension the game does well. Performance-wise, it runs smooth in a browser tab, no install, no fuss. If you liked Vampire Survivors or any horde survival, this scratches that same itch but with a mech skin. Just don't expect a story—expect a scoreboard and a reason to try again.
