Rescue Vanguard puts you in the boots of a one-person rescue squad, and it wastes zero time throwing you into the fire. You'll roll into each stage with just a rifle and your reflexes, then push through tight corridors full of gun-toting goons who really don't want you extracting anyone. The first time I cleared a room, ducked behind a crate to reload, and then heard a hostage yelling from the next area, I was hooked. Combat is simple but snappy: you move with the mouse, aim where you point, and fire automatically or with a click depending on the level. Enemies come in a few flavors—rushers, shooters, and the occasional heavy who eats bullets like cereal. You need to prioritize targets or you'll get swarmed. The rescue mechanic is the twist: you can't just kill everything and stroll out. You have to physically escort each hostage back to the extraction point, and they're slow, fragile, and sometimes path like drunk toddlers. That turns every firefight into a tense juggling act between clearing ahead and protecting behind. Later stages add environmental hazards, locked doors that need keycards, and a timer that makes you choose between grabbing an extra health pack or sprinting to the exit. I died a few times on stage 4 because I got greedy trying to rescue all three hostages before taking out the turret. It's a classic arcade loop: short levels, instant restarts, and just enough challenge to keep you saying 'one more try'.

Reload behind cover, not in the open—enemies punish the half-second you spend fumbling. Clear the room first, then call the hostage forward. They'll just stand in your line of fire otherwise. Watch for heavy enemies: they soak up headshots but go down fast if you hit the red tank on their back. Keycards are usually near the first locked door you see, so check corners before doubling back. Don't waste grenades on single grunts—save them for clusters or the turret rooms. The timer only starts when you grab the first hostage, so scout the map before you commit.
