📝Russian Checkers Overview
Slide a checker forward, then watch it snap backward to steal two pieces in a single move — that's Russian Checkers.
💬What is Russian Checkers?
I'll admit, the first time I tried Russian Checkers I thought it was just checkers with a different name. Then my opponent's single piece jumped backward, cleared three of my men, and promoted into a flying king that wiped the board in two moves. Yeah, it's different.
Here's the deal: men still move one square diagonally forward, but they capture both forward and backward. That makes every piece a threat in all directions. Kings are absolute monsters — they move like bishops in chess, sliding any number of squares along diagonals, and they can capture pieces from across the board as long as there's an empty square to land on. Forced captures are mandatory, and you must always take the maximum number of pieces available. If you have a choice between capturing one king or two regular men, both count as the max, so you pick your poison.
Strategy gets deep fast. Because backward captures exist, you can't just barrel forward and hope for the best. You need to bait your opponent into leaving a gap behind their lines, then snap a man backward to set up a triple jump. Promotion only happens if a man lands exactly on the last rank — passing through doesn't count. That little rule changes everything. I've thrown games by forgetting it, and I've won games by forcing my opponent to overshoot. Keep your flying kings on the long diagonal and they'll control half the board.

✨Game Tips
Force your opponent into a corner where they have to give you a multi-capture chain.
Don't rush to make kings — a man that can only move forward is sometimes better for defense because it can't be forced backward.
Sacrifice a man early to open a long diagonal for your future flying king.
Always calculate the maximum jump: Russian checkers forces you to take the most pieces, so trace every possible path before you move.
Control the double corner (the two diagonal squares near your back rank) to slow down enemy kings.
A flying king on the long diagonal is worth more than two men — don't trade it unless you have a guaranteed follow-up capture.
