Shadow Heroes doesn't waste time with tutorials or cutscenes. You're thrown straight into a character select with four equally cocky fighters — Leo's the balanced one, Raph hits like a truck but moves like one too, Mikey's quicker but fragile, and Donnie's reach with that staff is disgusting. I went with Leo first because I always pick the "all-rounder", but after getting swarmed three times in a row I swapped to Donnie and the range made a huge difference. The combat is simple: punch, kick, maybe a special move if your meter's filled. But the real challenge is managing space. Enemies spawn from both sides of the screen, and they love to flank. One second you're comboing a thug into the corner, the next there's a katana coming at the back of your head. It's the kind of game where you'll die, mutter "cheap", and immediately hit restart. The visuals are intentionally shadowy — dark backgrounds, neon accents, silhouettes that keep you guessing what's about to swing at you. It's not a graphical powerhouse but it runs smooth, which matters when twenty enemies are on screen. There's a combo counter that resets if you get hit, and building it up feels great until you get greedy and eat a ninja star. The AI isn't genius but it's aggressive, and the difficulty ramps up steadily. By wave fifteen you're not just fighting; you're herding enemies like cats, trying to line them up for a single sweeping attack. I found myself muttering at the screen more than once, which is usually a sign a brawler is doing something right. If you're after a quick browser beat-em-up that respects your time but punishes your reflexes, Shadow Heroes is worth a few runs. It's not reinventing the genre, but it nails the basics and has that "one more try" loop. My only real complaint: no co-op. This game screams for a second player, so hopefully that gets added eventually.

Pick Donnie first if you're struggling — his staff keeps enemies at a distance before they can corner you. Don't get greedy with combos; back off when the counter hits double digits or you'll eat a cheap hit. Save your special meter for when you're surrounded, not for showing off on a single goon. Watch both sides of the screen constantly; the AI loves to spawn behind you. Use the environment edges to funnel enemies into a line, then sweep them all at once. If you die on a wave, note which enemy type killed you and adjust your range accordingly.
