Shoot Some Fish! is pure reflex candy. You sit there with a crosshair (or your finger on a touchscreen) and fish keep swimming at you from both sides. Some are slow and dumb, others zip across the screen like they stole your lunch money. You've got 5 lives, and every fish that touches you burns one. Ten levels of that, and by the time you hit the later stages, the water turns into a bullet-hell lite. The real hook for me was learning the fish types. There are seven, and they don't just differ in speed. The little silver ones die in one shot, sure, but then a pufferfish shows up and you'd better not shoot it point-blank because it explodes — first time that happened I lost a life and just laughed. The day/night cycle isn't cosmetic either: at night, some fish are harder to see against the dark water, so you're straining your eyes while your thumb cramps. Dodge attacks? Yeah, some fish spit projectiles back at you, so you can't just camp in one corner. You have to keep moving, keep shooting, and never get greedy. It's not a deep game. No upgrades, no story. Just you, a mouse, and a screen full of fish that hate you. And for a quick arcade fix, that's exactly what I want.
