Slicing through choppy water at full throttle, you dodge buoys and grab every power-up in sight — that's Wave Rider in a nutshell.

Wave Rider throws you into a speedboat with two simple inputs: left click or right click to steer. That's it. The water is littered with hazards — floating logs, rogue waves, maybe other boats — and you have to weave through them while keeping your score climbing. Levels tick up as you survive, and the upper middle of the screen shows exactly how far you've made it. I kept misjudging the turn radius early on, smashing into the same stupid pier three times in a row. The boat doesn't stop on a dime, so you have to commit to a line before it's too late. Once I learned to tap instead of hold, everything clicked. There's a rhythm to it, almost like a dance with the current. The arcade loop is pure. No story, no upgrades screen, just you against the ocean. If you need a five-minute break that turns into forty, this is the one. It runs in any browser, and the mobile touch controls work just as well as a mouse.

Watch the score ticks to learn the level rhythm — each bump means a new obstacle pattern. On mobile, use two thumbs alternately to make rapid left-right corrections without lifting off. Don't chase every pickup if it drags you into a hazard; sometimes the safe line is the high-score line. If you're about to hit something, keep clicking anyway — a last-second twitch can still save the run.
